Vitamin D Check
KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR VITAMIN D LEVELS!
Vitamin D not only supports the storage of calcium in bones and teeth, but also strengthens the immune system, the nervous system and helps regulate inflammatory processes. Between 80 and 90 per cent of it is produced in the skin through exposure to UVB radiation. However, this is often insufficient in winter: according to the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG), around 60 per cent of the Swiss population has an insufficient supply of vitamin D at this time of year. The first signs are tiredness and difficulty concentrating. In the long term, muscle weakness or depressive moods may occur.
For the Vitamin D Check, a healthcare professional will take a small blood sample from your finger, which will then be analysed in a laboratory. At a second appointment, we will discuss the results and the next steps with you.
Please prepare for the vitamin D check as follows:
- Drink plenty of fluids in the 24 hours before the blood test and do not take any vitamin D or biotin.
- You do not need to fast before the blood test, but you should avoid eating very high-fat meals in the 24 hours beforehand.
- On the day of the blood test, avoid nicotine, alcohol and strenuous exercise.
